Touch typing lessons

Follow 8 practical lessons covering home keys, letter rows, numbers, punctuation and Chinese input methods. Each lesson includes finger guidance and a fixed drill you can practice immediately. QWERTY exercises teach key positions; use your system keyboard layout and input method for other languages.

01 · Find the home keys

Place the left little to index fingers on A S D F and the right index to little fingers on J K L ;. Feel the raised marks on F and J; use a thumb for Space. Return home after each keystroke.

02 · Move along the home row

Use the index fingers for F/G and J/H, middle fingers for D/K, ring fingers for S/L, and little fingers for A/semicolon. Practice accuracy slowly before increasing speed.

03 · Upper-row letters

Reach up from the home position: left hand Q W E R T, right hand Y U I O P. Keep the rest of your hand near its home position.

04 · Lower-row letters

Use the left hand for Z X C V B and the right hand for N M, comma and period. Avoid looking down for keys; build muscle memory with a comfortable posture.

05 · Numbers and symbols

Reach for the number row while maintaining your sense of the letter positions. Hold Shift with the other hand’s little finger; digits do not require Shift.

06 · Sentences and rhythm

Punctuation is part of your rhythm. Use the other hand for Shift at sentence beginnings and keep spaces after punctuation. Reach 95% accuracy before gradually speeding up.

07 · Chinese input methods

Enable a Chinese Pinyin input method in your system. Type Pinyin, select a candidate and commit it. Completion is not judged during composition. Home-row lessons use QWERTY positions, not every language’s keyboard layout.

08 · Chinese punctuation

Switch your input method to Chinese punctuation. Distinguish the full-width comma “,” and period “。” from English punctuation. Focus on accuracy before speed.
